Active County Rec League
Overview:
This project was inspired by how busy my family's group chat was over the summer because my brother had joined a softball league and helped us be able to attend his games by keeping us in the loop with his schedules & practices. I started to think of how much time if there was an app to easily keep track of this to save my brother time from constantly providing us with updates. With that, the app for Active County Rec League was born!

Problem:
Active County wanted to create an individual platform for its Rec League members and interested parties(family members, friends, team supporters, etc.). Doing so would free up time for county staff members and rec league members from having to provide updates, keep track of team records, and more!
Solution:
We sat with Active County to create accessible resource for members and interested parties of the community to learn about league activities and other events in the community. We decided to start with a mobile app, so they could also push out notifications for delays, rescheduled or canceled events, and reminders for upcoming games and events.
How It Came to Life!
Colors - We wanted to give Active County Rec League a color scheme that gave users a familiar Americana feel in hopes of getting some of that national pride to translate into pride in their community.

Typography - Due to the rebrand, we wanted to provide Tour Pro Depot with fonts that would be clean, clear, and sophisticated to help pair with the clubhouse feel that we are going for in their new app.

Wireframe / Lo-Fi Model
After reviewing the initial findings of our initial research (learn more about my design process & research methods in my About Me page), we learned that the average users fall into one of two categories: young & middle aged adults who are participating in adult leagues, and parents & grandparents of children in youth leagues. Factoring this in, we wanted to construct a user journey that was simple and easy for any county member or interested party to navigate through and obtain the information they need.

Mockups & Hi-Fi Model

After extensive testing and analysis we made some crucial discoveries that helped us arrive at our final design. For starters, in our first design, we failed to adequately identify if leagues were for adults, youth, or both which we quickly had to correct. We also got to learn which pieces of information are most crucial to users, and we were able to condense our initial design into fewer pages and implement jump-to links to structure the pages accordingly to help users have an efficient experience.
Thanks to our research and revisions, we were able to develop an app that helps Active County promote its Rec Leagues, Parks, and Events for all county residents and interested parties! Users have an app which allows them to to follow along with league schedules, receive updates, and stay up to date with county events!

Takeaways:
Active county now has a successful app that they can easily use to navigate league information and learn more about the county’s parks and community events. We were very happy to see how much more the users enjoyed the Hi-Fi model and were able to easily access the information they want. My biggest takeaway from building this app was the importance of consolidation. Users really appreciated short journeys to their end goal.
Next Steps
Live updates for games to keep player and attendees updated in case their desired game has been postponed or adjusted due to weather.
Develop a “My Schedules” page where users can consolidate the schedules for their desired teams. This will be mostly advantageous for parents of multiple children and multi-sport athletes.
When leagues are able to consistently keep track of stats for all games, we will be able to create a “My Stats” section where players can keep track of their stats and monitor their performance throughout the season.
